What is Mia-Lab

MIA-LAB is dedicated to studying the microbiome-immunity axis in human health, focusing on its role in the development of inflammation-related conditions such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, infections, and neurodegenerative disorders. In alignment with the concept of ``Circular Health,`` MIA-LAB emphasizes a holistic approach that recognizes humans as ``holobionts``—complex systems interconnected with their environment. To advance this vision, MIA-LAB has established a joint laboratory with partners of the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medicine and the Department of Agricultural, Food, Environmental, and Forestry Sciences and Technologies of the University of Florence, and the company Synbiotec Laboratories. The lab is committed to develop innovative analytical methods with versatile applications across clinical research, agri-food analysis, and agronomic practices. These initiatives aim to create cutting-edge diagnostic platforms that can be utilized in academic research, public institutions, and corporate settings at regional, national, and international levels, facilitating the design of new products and processes. By addressing dysregulation of the microbiota-immunity axis, MIA-LAB seeks to explore complex microbial ecosystems across human, animal, plant, and environmental niches. Its overarching goal is to contribute to global health improvement through integrative and effective approaches grounded in the principles of Circular Health.
